Energy Coast Events is a student-led events initiative founded by four students at Energy Coast UTC in Cumbria.
At a Glance
Energy Coast Events is a student-founded, youth-led events business launched from Energy Coast UTC in Cumbria. We’re a team of four young people building a real company with a professional structure, purpose-driven goals, and community at its core.
What began as part of a school-based employer initiative quickly evolved into something much more serious. We didn’t just want to complete a project — we wanted to create a lasting, meaningful platform that brings people together, supports important causes, and gives young people a chance to experience business and leadership first-hand.
Built Like a Business
From day one, we’ve approached Energy Coast Events as a real-world company. We’ve developed brand guidelines, secured a domain and professional email, launched a website, and are currently organising our debut public event — all while reaching out to local businesses, charities, MPs, and community services to create partnerships.
We handle everything in-house:
Branding, digital design, and promotional materials
Event planning and logistics
Communications and stakeholder outreach
Website and ticketing infrastructure
Talent coordination and scheduling
Sponsorship and vendor engagement
Each of us plays a key role in making the business work — just like any startup team.
Why We’re Doing This
We created Energy Coast Events to achieve three things:
To give something back. Our events raise funds for vital charities — including Andy’s Man Club and Barnardo’s — while also celebrating the energy, generosity, and talent of West Cumbria.
To gain real-world experience. We’re not just talking about entrepreneurship — we’re living it. From writing emails and pitching sponsors to managing timelines and creating content, we’re developing the same skills used in professional event companies and creative agencies.
To show what young people can do. We want to prove that with the right mindset and a little support, students can build something powerful, professional, and lasting — not just for ourselves, but for our community.
Learning Through Leadership
Running a business like this gives us the chance to develop a huge range of practical and transferable skills. We’re learning how to:
Manage time and responsibility under pressure
Collaborate effectively as a tight-knit team
Speak with confidence to professionals and partners
Build a public-facing brand with clarity and consistency
Problem-solve when things don’t go to plan
Take full ownership of a vision and make it reality
It’s experience that goes far beyond the classroom — and prepares us for the real world of work, leadership, and opportunity.
More Than an Event
While our first major event is the current focus, Energy Coast Events is designed to be scalable and long-term. We aim to grow the brand, host future events, and continue creating opportunities — for us and for the wider community.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about what’s ahead.
